We are currently enjoying the long summer days, the fields are in full vigour, nature seems to be at its peak. And yet - anyone who has grown flax knows that after the harvest is before the fibre. Because as soon as the days get shorter again, the time for processing begins. And that's exactly what we want to prepare for together with you.
While many of our German colleagues often show and accompany fibre extraction in open-air museums or similar institutions, we have so far lacked a comparable structure in Austria. But perhaps this is precisely where a special opportunity lies: the possibility of creating new places and new forms of cooperation - decentralised, personal and with a lot of initiative.
That's why today we're calling on anyone who would like to open their doors: Anyone who has a garden, a farm, a club or simply space and enjoy doing things together is cordially invited to join in! It's not about having perfectly equipped workshops. It's about coming together, trying things out and finding out together how fibres can actually be obtained from the dried stalks.
Our video instructions are ready, you bring your curiosity with you - and if you have crushers, pikes or other old equipment: All the better! Don't let them gather dust, but share them with others. Flax processing has always been community work in the past - why should we do it any differently today?
Please get in touch with us at office@1qmlein.atif you would like to be a host or are simply interested in getting involved and we will connect you! We look forward to many small processing festivals all over the country - organised by people who are passionate about traditional crafts and bringing them into the present.
Because that's what it's all about: Not waiting for someone to create a structure - but creating it together.

Couldn't read any posts until now, despite being logged in. Today it suddenly worked.
My flax is emerging very differently. Some flower stalks have already faded, others are only about 3cm high! Lg Theresia
